The Historic Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino, at the gateway to Boulder City, on the US 93/US 95 freeway, will officially unveil its new Watch & Wager Sports Lounge to the general public, with a Grand Opening Celebration on Thursday, August 22, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The new Sports Lounge and Book will start operations on Thursday, August 15, in its new location, according to Railroad Pass Executive Director, Curt Thompson.

William Hill Race & Sports Book group will continue to provide the sports wagering services.

The new Sports Lounge will have 11 TV screens, with comfortable seating for approximately 40 people. William Hill will provide 12 of their latest technological odds boards. The book will feature the NFL Sunday Ticket package, with all games available for viewing this season (subject to blackouts).

“We will provide the sports betters one comfortable location to watch and wager their favorite team within our new sports lounge and bar.  In addition, we’ll have a William Hill wagering Kiosk for added convenience.  All components will be in just in time for the NFL football season,” stated Thompson.

The Official Grand Opening, on August 22, will get underway at 5:00 p.m., with executives from Railroad Pass and William Hill on hand for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. In addition, the new sports lounge will be giving away William Hill T-Shirts to the first 50 people placing a bet. There will also be free appetizers and Bud Light giveaways.  Budweiser will supply “Bud Girls” to be part of the grand opening festivities.

“We are excited to open an all new, completely renovated sports book at the Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino, and continue to present the best wagering product for residents of Henderson and Boulder City,” said William Hill United States CEO, Joe Asher.

Jeanie Linders and cast of The DWord
Jeanie Linders and cast of The DWord

Took in the new show at the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino (LVH) the other evening. The “D*Word-A Musical (*Ditched, Dumped, Divorced and Dating)” at LVH celebrated its highly-anticipated opening night on Thursday, Aug. 1. Local entertainers, including the cast of FANTASY, Raiding the Rock Vault, Trent Carlini, Murray Sawchuck, Jeff Civillico, and Steven Phenegar from Tournament of Kings, walked the red carpet, posing with show creator Jeanie Linders, and The Big D*cast. Show-goers were treated to a party inside Tempo Lounge before the show, where the cast and creator greeted guests, enjoyed pre-show cocktails and posed for photos with celebrities before heading into the Shimmer Cabaret for the show.

Now as to the show itself: I was impressed somewhat with the caliber of the four women who portray the divorced ladies, Angie McKnight, Laura Wright, Maddie Casto and Sarah Hester Ross (supposedly they represent the women of the world who have ended up being single once again), who are going through a nightmare of trying to find a man. What makes this a good little show is that it has a pinpointed audience—and it’s not men! It is aimed directly at a female audience. But, of course, us guys will be sitting in the audience as that’s what we do when we’re dating a lady or married. The music is very clever with such songs as, “Before He Cheats,” “Hot Stuff,” and “Stronger,” by Kelly Clarkson, and the vocals are right on, with each lady getting a solo or two. The quick one-liners, sight gags, etc., are neatly placed by Ms. Linders, who also created “Menopause—The Musical.” She just might possibly have another hit on her lap, but she definitely needs to tweak it a wee bit.   Overall, I would say it’s a nice little show, and the women of the world will understand every joke and gag. One of the events that takes place (to give you an idea of the plot), is when one of the girls gets a blind date, only to find out later that he is the ex-husband of one of the other girls. Get the idea?
