AJ Lambert, Granddaughter of Frank Sinatra, to perform at “The Space”

For the first time ever, multi-talented songstress and Frank Sinatra’s granddaughter, AJ Lambert will perform in Las Vegas with a monthly residency at The Space beginning Friday, Jan. 12. AJ will rotate between performing two of her grandfather’s albums – the 1955 pioneering concept album “In The Wee Small Hours,” as well as his 1958 album, “Only The Lonely.”

In this show, Ms. Lambert shares her deeply intimate recollections of her grandfather Frank Sinatra, as only she can, while singing the iconic albums in their entirety with a voice all her own. The stripped-down presentation of Nelson Riddle’s classic arrangements (with piano accompaniment by John Boswell) allows for a rare opportunity for intimacy with these incredible pieces of American music. Whether you know the albums by heart or always wanted to know more, this show makes for a very rewarding evening.

Granddaughter of Frank Sinatra, A.J. Lambert to perform at The Space.

“It is such an honor for me to be performing in the city that has become synonymous with my grandfather’s name,” Lambert said. “He was one of Las Vegas’ first and most well-known resident artists and I am proud to continue his legacy by performing his music here.”

Although she is the granddaughter of Frank Sinatra and daughter of Nancy, AJ Lambert’s style and interpretations of both standards and modern music are truly her own. After working as a film music supervisor and bassist in various bands (including Here We Go Magic and a reunion of seminal punk icons The Homosexuals), AJ has emerged as a solo artist on two fronts. Her new album, “Careful You,” is an album of unique interpretations of songs by modern artists like Spoon, TV on the Radio, and John Cale, as well as some of her grandfather’s deep cuts from albums like “Only The Lonely.” Lambert arranged and recorded the songs with a full band, has directed and produced her first music video, and will be touring to support the record throughout 2018. As a solo vocalist, her revolving tour of small clubs in New York (Feinstein’s 54 Below), Los Angeles (Gardenia), Palm Springs (Purple Room) and Las Vegas (The Space) showcases her work in a more intimate setting

Pianist John Boswell has served as musical director for Judy Collins, Andy Williams, Bob Newhart, and a host of other fine talents. John played the role of “Moose” in the national tour of “Crazy For You” and has appeared on The Tonight Show, Today Show, CBS This Morning, Regis And Kathie Lee, General Hospital and was the piano playing hands of Nancy McKeon on the sit-com “The Facts of Life.” Recent concerts with symphonies have included “Jerry Herman: The Broadway Legacy Concert” and “BLOCKBUSTER BROADWAY.” Broadway/Off Broadway credits include “Crazy For You,” “The Secret Garden,” “LIZA! Steppin’ Out At Radio City Music Hall,” “Back To Bacharach And David” and “The Kathy And Mo Show: Parallel Lives.” John has eight CDs of original piano music and a ninth on the way. While a student at UCLA, John received the Frank Sinatra Award for popular instrumentalists.

Simone Salen, an author and a friend of this reporter, was in Israel a few weeks ago, and filed the following report on her Facebook, after returning to Las Vegas, I thought it warranted a spot in my column this week. So, what you will read next is her thoughts:

I saw with my own eyes how the Israelis create unity among all their citizens, Jews, Christians, and Muslim. All of Jerusalem belongs to all faiths and ethnic backgrounds. The Government of Israel is multi faith and all have a voice in their governing. All sacred Shrines are protected and maintained with heart felt dignity. I also saw Bethlehem and the East Wall. Where are the improvement promised by Hamas? The half billion a year sent to the Palestinian Government by we, the tax payers of the U.S., never go to the people of Palestine, but rather the pockets of their leader’s. I saw no hate for Christians, or Jews alike. I saw despair. Thank You President Trump. You did the right thing. Perhaps this will become the beginning of the unity of people not Governments.
