Country Superstars, formerly known as Country Superstars Tribute, located inside the Golden Nugget Las Vegas, downtown, launched its new show format with the addition of Cody Collins, former lead singer of Lonestar, as its headliner last Thursday. Collins captured the hearts of the ladies in the audience with his charming vocals, while the Big & Rich tribute artists gave a spot-on performance. Country Superstars is a hybrid show, featuring a rotating cast of up and coming country music artists performing original songs and spectacular tribute artists showcasing all the hits.
“The new format of Country Superstars has added another level of depth to the show and the audience is really responding. Cody has brought an amazing energy and charm to each and every performance,” said Producer Leonard Quenneville. “We are excited with the new direction of the show and look forward to the future.”
The new Country Superstars is a fast-paced, concert-style production that boasts a live five-piece band with amazing artists bringing country music history alive alongside new up and coming talent. Consistently delivering an unforgettable entertainment experience, the show treats audiences to the sights and sounds of America’s heartland, in a manner that country fans have come to expect. With the addition of Cody, guests are provided with a different experience and appreciation for him as an independent artist. While Collins is best known for his albums with Lonestar, including, “Party Heard Around the World,” released in 2010, Cody features a combination of original songs along with Lonestar hits, including: “Walking in Memphis,” “Front Porch Looking In” and “What About Now.”

“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” made its debut at the Plaza Hotel & Casino. The production features two veteran actresses in the lead role. Jacquelyn Holland-Wright and Kellie Wright will share the acting responsibilities for Miss Mona Stangley, the character who runs the brothel. The part was played by Dolly Parton in the 1982 major motion picture adaption of the Broadway musical.
Holland-Wright is best known for her leading role as Donna Sheridan (the mom) in the Las Vegas production of the Broadway musical “Mamma Mia!” Her long list of credits includes singing in “Jubilee!” and with Wayne Newton in Las Vegas and on his USO Tour. Currently, she has been teaching acting and music at Kidville in Tivoli Village and with Drama Kids International. Kellie Wright, has also enjoyed a career in entertainment that has spanned the globe from Australia and Japan to the U.S., singing with bands, performing in production shows and working as a studio session singer. In Las Vegas, she has starred in “Bottoms Up” with Rip Taylor, played Mrs. Vitale in “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding,” and was a featured singer in “Jubilee!”
Based on the true story of the legendary Texas brothel known as the Chicken Ranch, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” chronicles how the town’s sheriff, and regular patron of the brothel fights, to keep the historical whorehouse open, as a crusading do-gooder television commentator seeks to close its doors. The full production show at the Plaza will take audience members on a trip through history while watching some of the sexiest girls in Las Vegas sing, dance and act. Based on the book by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, with music and lyrics by Carol Hall, the original Broadway production of the show made its debut in 1978. Directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune, the Broadway show was nominated for seven Tony Awards®. “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” at the Plaza is produced locally by SFS Entertainment, LLC, under the direction of William Freyd and Bob Sperling along with the artistic direction of Betty Sullivan-Cleary. The show is co-produced by Matthew Resler with Vegas Java Entertainment.

Sal Richards, a well-known and accomplished comedian and actor, returns to Las Vegas to headline at The Improv, inside Harrah’s on the Las Vegas Strip, Tuesday, April 10-15. The last time this writer had a chance to watch Richards at work, was when he opened for Robert Goulet. Since that was quite some time ago, I’m looking forward to his return. Sal is not just a stand-up comedian, but has several movies to his credit, including “Mr. Laughs, A Look behind the Curtain,” “Rounders,” “Out For Justice,” “Fighting Back,” and “Love is All There Is.” He has also appeared in a number of television show such as “The Sopranos,” “Law and Order,” “The Fugitive,” and “Deadline.” “Sal is one of the quickest thinking comics on a stage, and his ability to ad-lib and interact with his audience is flawless,” Variety wrote in a review.
