Local Senior citizens, and other people in the Las Vegas community, will get a health
Boost, thanks to a very special musical-comedy event taking place at the South Point Hotel & Casino, located at 9777 So. Las Vegas Blvd. “Laugh-A-Thon,” sponsored by the Lions Club, will take place in the main showroom on Sunday, Sept. 23rd, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with doors opening at 1:30 p.m., and is open to the public.
Organized by the Lions HealthFirst Foundation, in cooperation with the South Point Hotel & Casino who donated the showroom, tickets are now on sale at the showroom Box office, with all seats one price, $25.00. Proceeds will go directly into the Foundation’s Ultrasound Health Screening program.
”Because of fund-raising activities such as this event, the ultrasound exams are free, or at a very low cost to patients who can afford to share in the cost,” James Bartel, president of the Foundation, said. “The exams pick up potentially serious medical problems, such as masses, cysts, tumors, and blockages. Our screenings give you a heads up on what’s going on inside your body.” Bartel added. “They’re painless, non-invasive and only take about 60 minutes.”
The event will include music and comedy, as well as meeting and mingling with a host of celebrities and some of Las Vegas’ most prominent medical doctors. Among the entertainers performing are: Rich Little, Bill Fayne, Genevieve, Michele LaFong, Gordie Brown, Leigh Zimmerman and her daughter, Cayleigh Capaldi, Lisa Smith, The Shades of Sinatra, Marlon Multo, Peter Anthony, Fielding West, Michelle Rohl, and Kelly McDonald, who will perform and host the afternoon. Emmy Award winner, Gary Anderson, has assembled a super trio as backup for the entertainers: Billy T. on piano, Steve Flora, bass, and Ryan Rose on drums. In addition to the trio, Anderson will add three horns, and will present his famous “Lighthouse Jazz Tribute.”

The mixed martial arts organization, World Series of Fighting, this week entered the fastest growing sport in the world, with a series of major announcements including a television agreement with NBC Sports Network. The debut event will take place in Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, on Saturday, Nov. 3, and will air live on the NBC Sports Network. Ray Sefo, president of the World Series of Fighting, delivered the news during a press conference held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. “I’m excited and honored to announce that the World Series of Fighting has reached an agreement with the NBC Sports Network, and that PH Live, inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, will be the home of our first series of events,” Sefo said.
Former bantamweight champion, Miguel Angel Torres, will headline the main event of the historic night of fights. The premier card will feature Gregor Gracie (7-2) of the famed Gracie family vs. Tyson Steel (8-1), Ronys Torres (25-4) vs. Brian Cobb (19-7), and Josh Burkman (23-9), in a welterweight bout. Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante (16-6) will take on Las Vegas local, John Gunderson (34-14), as part of the undercard.

The magical artistry of “Esteban,” and his guitar, will make its debut at The Smith Center, Thursday, Sept. 13, and Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012. A Las Vegas resident, “Esteban” will perform along with his daughter, violinist Teresa Joy, and his band of outstanding musicians. Show times are set for 7 p.m.
Stephen Paul, was given his special name by the legendary classical guitarist, Andres Segovia, who called him, “Esteban,” during his years of study with the master in Spain (1974-1978), and in the United States. One year later, Esteban was in an automobile accident, hit by a speeding drunk driver. Because of severe damage to his left arm and hand, he lost his ability to play the guitar for 10 years. By 1990, through dedication and love of music, he began to again play the guitar he so loved. Since then, Esteban has topped the Billboard charts many times with his numerous albums, videos and DVDs, and has had first-time music history successes never before accomplished by any guitarist. He has been on the front page of the Wall Street Journal for his famous appearances and record-setting album sales on Home Shopping Network.
