A very special lady, and a wonderful friend, will be visiting Las Vegas this month. Deana Martin is an influential American singer, actor and performer and the very proud daughter of iconic entertainer, Dean Martin. Deana will be performing in the showroom at the South Point Hotel & Casino/Spa, Friday and Saturday, June 22-23.
Deana achieved success early in her career in films, theater and television, then quickly added to her repertoire — recording artist, best-selling author, nationally syndicated radio host, licensed pilot, and entrepreneur. As an internationally acclaimed entertainer, hit recording artist and an in-demand performer, playing to sold-out audiences worldwide, Deana has become an instantly recognizable voice and figure in the pantheon of “The Great American Songbook.”
Deana’s 2006 debut CD release, “Memories Are Made of This,” stayed in the top 10 for 40 consecutive weeks. Another hit CD, ”Volare,” was released in 2009, and debuted on the Billboard charts at No. 7, and the Jazz chart at No. 22. “White Christmas,” was another chart buster, released in 2011. It stayed on the top 10 chart throughout the entire Christmas season.
A celebrated author, Martin found herself on the New York Times coveted Best Seller list with her 2004 memoir, “Memories Are Made of This: Dean Martin Through His Daughters Eyes.” In it, Deana delights in sharing wonderful, never-before-told stories about her father and his “Pallies.” To her they were known as, Uncle Frank (Sinatra) and Uncle Sammy (Davis, Jr.) – to the world, they were known as the, “Rat Pack.”

Two summer concerts will offer diverse entertainment for all ages, at two city of Las Vegas centers. “Blame it on the Walleye,” which features singer/comedienne Richel Kompst, and her school of walleye back-up singers and band members, will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Charleston Heights Arts Center Theatre, 800 S. Brush St. The story is told through music and monologues featuring the Mistress of Ceremonies, Olga Torkelson, and a bevy of cameo impressions, including Doris Day, Ann-Margret, and the beloved Barbra Streisand. The show brings the audience through the diverse styles of music, from jazz to country, and Broadway to the Beatles. Tickets are priced at $10 in advance and $15 on event day.
DjangoVegas! will feature the Gonzalo Bergara Quartet, The Fishtank Ensemble, and The Hot Club of Las Vegas, in concert on Saturday, June 23, at 6 p.m. at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. The G String Band will entertain in the courtyard during a pre-concert cocktail hour starting at 5 p.m., and during intermission. The concert is a celebration of the music of Django Reinhardt, and other gypsy jazz performers of the past and present. Concert tickets are priced at $10. Classic rock fans can “travel down a dark desert highway and feel the cool wind in their hair,” when, Hotel California “A Salute to the Eagles,” reproduces the Grammy® Award-winning sounds of the legendary band at the Suncoast Showroom, June 30 and July 1. Known throughout the world as a premier Neil Diamond tribute artist, Las Vegan Jay White pays tribute to the legendary performer at the Suncoast Showroom June 23 and 24. Performing as the “Sweet Caroline” singer since his first professional gig in 1982, White’s physical and vocal embodiment of Diamond landed him a nearly nine-year stint in “Legends in Concert” on the Las Vegas Strip. White followed with an eight-year run of 2,000 shows, performing in as Diamond at the Riviera in a solo Las Vegas Strip show. White has appeared in many theaters, casinos and hotels throughout the world. He performed for President and Nancy Reagan, sang the National Anthem at dozens of professional sporting events, and appeared on a bill with Bob Hope for the American Legion.
In addition to music and performing, White is an accomplished hockey player. Since his pro tryout with the IHL Kalamazoo Wings in the ‘70s, and his Olympic tryout in 1980, White continues to maintain his conditioning for both the ice and the stage. He is currently the emergency backup and practice goalie for the Las Vegas Wranglers.
